Research

secondary research:

Design

In the brief one of the main points is that they want the final piece to look like a clay motion model. this will affect the way it looks as the material has certain drawbacks and limits, the lips and eyes are the most noticeable ones.

The first design feature I thought about was the eyes, I didn't want it to have the classic claymation eyes,

opting for this look:

rather than this:

I also found this video and i really liked the red character, especially his hands. i like the way they are made and the way they move.

The wise Gorilla

Industry exercise 1

My brief is:

“We would like your students to design and animate some characters for us for a potential animated advertisement for London Zoo. We are thinking about using a visual style that reflects traditional “Claymation” techniques but will be generated using CG processes. The characters should be worked up from the following list:”

We have been given five characters, a hyperactive boy who loves creepy crawlies, an older sister who is a very knowging for her age, their grandma (who is paranoid about the monkeys throwing poo all over her hat) , an angry scottish Zoo kepper, and last of all a very civilised silverback gorilla.

i think the gorilla appealed most to me :
Cornelius – “A middle aged silver back gorilla, the most civilised and sensible occupant of the zoo by far.”

as i read it images of
 Bollo from the mighty Boosh

 Houston from space chimps

and for some reason i also pictured Fowler the old cockerel from chicken run.
